2021.12.01 18:32 what-the-fluffs In need of insight

Hey dad,
Few years back I found that guy who was living on the moment, and it lifted me up so much because for once I didn't need to do big things whith my life. It was so liberating.
To be honest I've just been lucky, was born in a nice family. Shit happends but I bounced back and on my path I had intrestings opportunities. And you and grandma dying was saddly a good thing cause it gave me some financial comfort.
Now he is from lower class [gosh I hate that expression], and his carpe diem mindset made him only takes up minimum wages jobs. Now I feel he is loosing a piece of his soul each working day because he is working on a call center. When there's nothing to do he is just able to stare at a blank wall. Yesterday he cried because he feels he'll never be able to crawl from his family's social status.
And it breaks my heart. Iknow it'll be difficult and it's not a me job, but I'd love to help him so much. I'm at loss at what to do, just like you were at the deep end of your depression. I'm already hinting him to change jobs and trying to get onto another field, but he always feels inadequate.
This situation is so sad, so frustrating. Any idea of how to deal whith it?

2021.12.01 18:32 Ok-Ingenuity2639 Am I Bi? How do I know? Do I even care?

Hi people, I'm a 42 m who is at the cusp of sexual revolution. I've always identified as hetero. Without getting into much backstory, I find myself ready and willing to find out for sure,.wink wink. I've been on an app for guys, and it was a massacre. I guess you could say I'm easy on the eyes, and do not look my age. So I got hit up HARD. So different from the heteo leaning ls sites my partner and ii have been on. With her eager encouragement, I was about to go over to someone's house. But I couldn't do it, not without her there . Well I know I probably could,.but not with such an abrupt first encounter. I guess I'm wondering what's a more gentle way to ease in (pun fully intended). I'm sure we'll have some MMF in the near future. So what I'm really looking for is on the emotional side . I've determined I have a type. And while I don't care too much about labels, it doesn't sit quite well with me to be unsure of my sexuality at 42. It's incredibly exciting and liberating. But it's also scary. Thanks for listening

2021.12.01 18:32 Helpful-Coyote-5954 Landing an Account Executive Role in tech Sales

Had a few people reach out who saw the Post: How to land an SDBDR Job Tomorrow and wanted to know how this would be applicable for an Account Executive role.
Here is an idea that might work for you. This is actually exactly what I did a while back to land an AE role myself previously.
In an AE role you are the one being booked on meetings with prospects so your responsible for getting introduced to them, doing discovery to uncover the business cases where your product can help, presenting your solution and managing the followup >> thru to close.
So instead of creating a process of sending the hiring manager a list of contacts that I would do as an SDR, I would simulate an AE environment and build an entire demo to the best of my abilities.
The AE manager cares about a candidates ability to communicate in business conversations, demonstration a product and progress thru a sales cycle. So your goal is to showcase that you have those skills and understand their wants.
I think I saw somewhere earlier you mentioned Slack... let's say this was your ideal AE role....
Slack is a freemium product like a lot of SaaS tools which means anyone can sign up for a free account.
So I would:

  1. Learn the product
    1. Download free version of their product & watch every video I could about the functionality and key features. Trial any premium features you can for no or low cost
  2. Create a hypothetical situation for a demo environment
    1. Again, like an SDR, look on their website and job posting and find out what type of customer you would be selling to.
    2. Craft up a use case: find an ideal fit out there on linkedin and even who the ideal point of contact would be on the demo... like grab their linkedin profile and use their name..
    3. Then right a couple of paragraphs about what problems they have and why they would even be evaluating something like Slack.. use info you have at your disposal. Most of this is online and you can make some stabs in the dark
  3. Build your demo presentation
    1. Try not to overthink this... and use your experience or look into running a good demo (for time sake not going to explain this here). Have a framework for the demo - Example: (I would have this typed out on a doc to showcase)
      1. Agenda***:*** 1-2 minutes explaining how you see the call going and prepping the client for what to expect on this call
      2. Discovery: 10-15 minutes asking specific questions and letting the prospect fill you in on their situation, their business problems and what opportunities exist
      3. Product demonstration walk thru: 20-35 mins: Based on the information you received in discovery, this is where you are going to cater the software demo walk through to showcase where you product can help solve their pains.
      4. Pricing and Implementation: 5 minutes: This is where you are explaining how pricing works and what implementation/onboarding would look like
      5. Next Steps: 3 minutes : If there is remote mutual fit and cause for further discussion, you will set the appropriate next steps like followup call or "trial"
  4. Record yourself on video running the demo f
    1. From start to finish based on that hypothetical scenario...( bonus points if you can have a friend or family member pretend to be the prospect)
    2. Send the whole video & docs to the hiring manager directly
Rinse and repeat this at your top 4 ideal job prospects... comment with your offer letters!

2021.12.01 18:32 Quirky_Egg_5394 Study Abroad Struggles

Hi everyone...I'm an exchange student from the US studying at a university in Wales. I guess I'm just posting this out of frustration and also because I wish someone would've given me this wake-up call before I started my semester abroad in Wales. Studying abroad, or at least my experience, has been so much harder than I thought it would be. I knew this would be a difficult experience, but it has been downright miserable some days because of the stress, homesickness, physical sickness, and so many other things. Don't get me wrong, there have been things I've experienced and learned during my past three months here that I will never forget and that I'm glad I got to experience, but I also have spent the last two weeks crying every single day because I'm so stressed out with schoolwork and homesickness. I feel like social media portrays living in another country as a non-stop vacation and they don't show the reality of actually leaving your family behind and studying in a new country with completely new cultures and people and experiences. It's overwhelming, and not just at the beginning, but all the time. I feel bad for thinking these things and definitely don't want to take this time for granted, but there are things I WISH other people would've told me or that would've been made more obvious to me before I decided to study abroad. Even in the UK where people speak the same language as me, culture shock hit me like a TRAIN and still does three months in. Don't make the mistake I did and assume that just because people look and speak like you that you won't have to deal with culture shock. Studying abroad in another country means studying within their educational system. LEARN ABOUT AND UNDERSTAND THE NEW SYSTEM BEFORE YOU GO. Again, just because the US and UK are similar, I assumed that the schooling system would be more or less the same, but boy was I wrong. Learn how the country you are going to grades things and what grading scale they use, what counts as a "good" grade versus a "bad" grade. Also, mental health can be a challenge to upkeep when you're under so much stress, and chances are, you will be under quite a lot of stress. You're in a new country learning their customs, going to their schools, meeting new people from around the world, all while trying to keep up with things happening at home. It can be a lot, and no one should judge you for not being able to balance it all the time. Know your options for if you happen to need counseling (like I do) or other help at both your home school and school abroad. My study abroad office has been amazing in connecting me with a therapist and I hope others' do as well. Don't hesitate to reach out when you feel things slipping, because I wish I would've reached out to my advisor earlier and gotten the help I need sooner. Chances are, they've dealt with these things before and will be willing to help you in any way they can.
I don't want to just sound like a negative Nelly, but I wish someone would have told me these things before I left, or I wish I would've listened more when someone DID tell me these things. People always told me before I left that "this will be such a good experience for you!" or "you'll have the time of your life!", "this will be the best semester ever!". That isn't to say that this experience hasn't been educational or life-changing, but it sure has been struggle and a battle at times.

2021.12.01 18:32 haylz328 My new kitty won’t leave my sons side. Why?

So we acquired this kitten a week ago. Mother in law asked for a kitten for Christmas. When we got him there she said she didn’t want him anymore as she’s going away. We were fuming but from the night he’d spent at out we knew there was something special about him.
We took him back and introduced him to my 2 cats. Ols tried to befriend him and Pablo (new kitten) hissed at him. After ollie continued to try multiple times they ended up friends. Dora won’t go near him she sniffed him once then avoids him.
My son was devastated he’d gone so once we found out they got on we told him we’d kept him. Pablo has not left my sons side since Sunday morning. He sits with him all day every day and sleeps with him every night. My son is obsessed with him! He ventures away from my son probably a small handful of times a day but doesn’t leave him for more than a few minutes. He’s 6 months old so he’s not a baby it’s just so weird. Definitely meant to be I’m wondering if he’s a spirit animal or something. Just so weird and never known an animal to develop such an attachment. What do you think?

2021.12.01 18:32 surgicalcanon [General] Do you think people who had visions were reality shifting?

Wasn’t sure to post this under the question tag or spirituality tag, so correct me if I’m wrong.
So all across human history many people have accounted seeing visions of past, present, and future events. Personally I’ve read and listened to hundreds of people through history whose visions later turned out to be true (predicting WW2, the falls of ancient empires, etc). So do you think these people were reality shifting, whether they were doing it themselves or by some form of deity?
